Cloud Computing...the case for better information control and reduction of points of failure PDF Print E-mail

It is worth noting that wherever you are in the world, whatever situation you are in, whatever home you live in and wherever your work takes you, we all exist under the same sky and it is that everpresent sky and the fluffy and occasionally intriguing-looking clouds that swim in the wide open blue that binds all of us.

In IT network diagrams, the cloud represents the internet. Whatever that drives the applications, the web servers, the technology that exist in the cloud are invisible to you.  You would just like to venture forth into this cloud via your favourite browser and surf, download, upload, playback and listen.

Access to the internet is almost a pre-requisite for owning a computer, so it is about time that since the internet has become almost as ubiquitous as blue jeans, that WE start making full use of its potential to not only interlink networks and PCs and servers, but to also be our source for data warehousing and backup storage and be the place where you place your network domain and file server for multi location authentication control and file access.

We are now heading towards an era of faster internet connectivity. We have already deployed network systems where the client vitualises all their Operating Systems with only a terminal device sitting on the desk at the office.  All that runs day to day for the office user resides on the server, sitting remotely from the office. This drastically reduces i) licensing costs, ii) support costs (as the terminal client requires little attention and the support crew spends less time dealing with PC issues caused by hard disk and memory failure, virus and malware attacks and Operating system corruption).  It centralises all application rollout and updates to one instance, the server(s) in the data centre. Needless to say, where your server(s) is/are located is where your backup storage devices will reside.

So...cloud based servers? No more would you need to blow your budget on hefty power bills running your very own server(s) in your office. You paying less for licenses too...and you get to save the environment ...you will be one green, lean and perhaps mean outfit, poised to retain your competitive edge against your peers...with lower overall overheads in your IT setup...but that is another story which we can elaborate on if you have the patience to hear This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   out.
